For many Rom.6:23 just like the rest of the bible is simply not prescriptive as far as they are concerned because their paradigm of life doesn't include the existence of a benevolent personal God, who has created all things and who has definite expectations on His creation according to His divine purpose.
Since therefore sin is a personal offense against a personal true and living God, reparation of such an offense can only be made on God's terms and not ours. The Christian faith clearly stipulates that our God has made known to us the terms on which we can be reconciled with Him. John 14:6, Acts 4:12.
All that is expected of Humanity is to accept God's gift to be fully restored in our privileged position of God's stewards and personal representatives here on earth. Today If you hear his voice, do not harden your heart.
