#LordHaveMercy - If you have never read Psalm 51, I strongly encourage you to make time and read the whole Psalm. It is quite fascinating to note David's spiritual insight on the absolution of sin (i.e: God's mercy and cleansing) in times when the law of Moses prescribed the blood of sheep, goats and other rituals and observances. The law was given to Israel to make them and the rest of the world aware of sin and its final consequences - death. So the observance of the law could only deepen the realization of mankind wretched state and our deepest need for a savior.
In this text David breaks the mold and turn directly to God for the absolution of his sin of adultery. This was made possible because David understood that sin has always been an offense of the human heart against God. As such no amount of animal sacrifices could right the offense of sin against our Holy God. Only a broken Heart and a contrite spirit are good enough to warrant use forgiveness.
So if you have sinned, cry out for mercy to God and you will be cleansed.
